He has not only broadened the group’s global footprint with multiple Mahindra and Mahindra products but also made a significant impact on India’s business landscape. It’s no wonder he’s considered a driving force behind the Mahindra brand’s global success.

About Mr. Anand Mahindra

Upon completing his studies at Harvard University, where he earned a degree in architecture and an MBA from Harvard Business School, Anand Mahindra joined Mahindra Ugine Steel Company Ltd. (MUSCO) in 1981 as an Executive Assistant to the Finance Director. In 1989, he became the Deputy Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., and by 1991, he was the Managing Director, leading the company through India’s economic liberalisation.

His most pivotal role came in 2001 when he became Vice Chairman of the Mahindra Group, later becoming Chairman and Managing Director in 2012 taking over from his uncle Keshab Mahindra as the Mahindra company owner. He is also an incisive business commentator and humanitarian with over 11 million followers on social media.

Mahindra Group History

Founded in 1945, the Mahindra Group’s roots date back to the critical period post-World War II. A steel trading company, Mahindra and Muhammad, was incorporated by a group of three people. Two were the Mahindra Brothers, and the third was Muhammad. Fate had something else in store, and Muhammad moved across the border after the India-Pakistan partition. It then became Mahindra and Mahindra. The Mahindra and Mahindra we know of today.

As of 1947, the Mahindra company had begun assembling Willys Jeeps in India, which played a vital role in India’s transportation landscape, especially in rugged, rural areas. By the 1950s, the company had already cemented its place as a key player in the Indian automobile industry, but that was just the start.

Over the decades, Mahindra expanded its product lineup, moving from assembling jeeps to manufacturing a wide range of vehicles, including tractors, SUVs, and commercial vehicles. The brand’s commitment to producing reliable, durable, and affordable vehicles helped it build a loyal customer base both in India and abroad.

Today, the Mahindra car company is one of the largest vehicle manufacturers by production in India. It operates in over 100 countries, and its vehicles are known for their ruggedness and dependability, especially in challenging terrains.

The Indian automaker offers a wide range of utility vehicles to the SA market including:

Each of these vehicles is designed with thoughtful features and spacious interiors, offering plenty of room for families, cargo, and all your adventure gear.

Under Anand Mahindra’s leadership, the company has embraced a global vision, expanding its portfolio with car companies owned by Mahindra, such as REVA Electric Car, SsangYong Motor and Pininfarina, and forming partnerships with global giants like Volkswagen Group. These moves have expanded Mahindra’s manufacturing footprint and positioned it as a key player in the global automotive industry.

Note: Of Mahindra owned car companies, REVA Electric Car Company now Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd was India’s first electric automobile manufacturer.
